Kylie Jenner’s Birthday Birkin Bonanza Featuring Rare Hermès Handbags

Ever envied the Kardashian-Jenner clan’s treasure trove of handbags? Well, here’s another one to lust over. The youngest of the bunch, Kylie Jenner, celebrated her birthday this past weekend, and momager Kris gifted the celeb something to ring in her 25th year in style.

Feast your eyes on this unboxing. The star of the show is an Hermès Birkin that’s part of the colormatic collection. A range of leather goods sporting unique and quirky color combinations from cardholders and SLGs, to the main attractions, the Birkin and Kelly.

In addition to the Big B, Jenner also celebrated with plenty of other orange boxes containing a pair of shearling Oran sandals as well as a rare Faubourg style B20 (called Sous la neige). But let’s get back to that first Birkin that’s got everyone talking. There’s been quite a lot said, by both news outlets, as well as Jenner herself. Let’s take a closer look.

From what we gather, the Colormatic collection is new by Hermès and includes Kellys and Birkins in its latest lineup for Spring/Summer 2022. The first thing we noticed about headlines surrounding Kylie’s newest addition was the price- and also a fact drop about the number made. Several reports say that the bag has a price tag of a cool $100,000- which wouldn’t necessarily be the most surprising thing given the KarJenner family’s extensive handbag collection. In fact, the youngest Jenner’s interior decorator recently shared that her closet is filled with handbags, mostly Hermès of course, totalling in the millions. However, it’s this price in particular that’s got us raising our eyebrows.

Though new outlets quote the six-figure price tag, PurseBop can confirm that the bag itself doesn’t actually retail for the same. Rather, you’re looking at a price closer towards the mid-teens range- around $15,200. Which begs the question- could the bag have been acquired through a reseller? Not such a farfetched idea as many celebrities have gone through the resale market to nab rare and highly coveted styles. Not too long ago, Cardi B even admitted to paying triple the retail price for a Cargo Birkin, while Kanye West frequently employs the services of personal shoppers that source items through their network of resellers.

So, does Kylie’s birthday Birkin really cost $100k? The short answer (and least complicated we could fathom)- yes… and no. Sorry, allow us to be specific. From the boutique? This bag most likely does not sport the heavy sales tag (as we mentioned above). Listed on the secondary market, though? It’s quite possible. However the media’s front-page headline featuring the whopping price isn’t exactly correct- and it wouldn’t be the first time they got it wrong.

As we’ve discussed before, there have been plenty of times where reports have quoted exorbitant prices for Birkins and Kellys but remember this- Bs and Ks aren’t listed on the Hermès website, so the only prices you’d find with a quick Google search would be those on resale outlets. Additionally, the tripled (and even quadrupled) prices, are really more for the rarest styles in pristine condition (brand new more often than not). All in all, tsk-tsk reporter friends, let’s get our Hermès prices in order next time before we send everyone into a frenzy *wink* .

Apart from price, here’s something else we couldn’t help but wonder about. As the birthday girl unboxed her heavenly H delights, you’ll hear her proudly proclaim that her colormatic Birkin is one of only three made. Hmmm. That can’t be quite true as we personally know of two others sold from the Beverly Hills store and one happened to be just yesterday.

Given that this collection was publicly launched for SS22 there definitely must be more. Perhaps only three were available at a certain boutique? That would make much more sense.  On the other hand, Kylie Jenner could just be one of the luckiest girls in the world, with one of the rarest bags in the world. We’ll leave that up to you to decide.
