Celine Triumphs with New Bags for Winter 2024

Breaking away from the confines of the traditional fashion calendar, Hedi Slimane unveiled Celine’s latest Winter 2024 collection through a digitally streamed showcase. Opting once again to forgo a traditional audience-filled presentation, Slimane’s showcase took place within iconic Art Deco venues scattered across Paris, including La Maison de la Chimie and La Salle Pleyel.

Titled ‘La Collection de l’Arc de Triomphe,’ this grouping pays homage to Slimane’s friend and mentor, the esteemed photographer Richard Avedon, drawing inspiration from the vibrant spirit of the 1960s. Transporting us directly to the heart of Parisian chic, Celine’s Winter 2024 runway fuses French sophistication and contemporary cool.

Reminiscent of 60s fashion, the collection offers a sprinkling of nostalgia throughout with playful mini skirts, sleek shift dresses, white knee-high boots, patent mary-janes, and chic co-ords. In contrast to Celine’s edgier ‘Tomboy’ collection for Summer 2024, this latest offering presents a refined aesthetic with a chic and streamlined style, placing less emphasis on print and pattern.

This collection also marks Celine’s foray into the world of luxury beauty, with the forthcoming launch of the Celine Beauté cosmetics line. The debut product, “Le Celine Rouge” lipstick, is just the beginning. The full Celine Beauté collection, including 15 lipstick shades, lip balms, mascaras, and eyeliners, is set to debut in boutiques in its entirety in January 2025.

Let’s take a closer look at the bags. . .

Garance

The coveted Celine Triomphe has some competition for this upcoming Winter. . .  During the runway presentation, Celine presented the new Garance bag, a fresh iteration in glossy patent leather. The Garance features an elongated shoulder strap, a fold-over flap, a slim profile, and of course, the Triomphe emblem.

Presented in a Teen size, in an east-west iteration, the Garance style introduces a subtly different design. Notably, the shoulder strap, now affixed to the top of the bag with distinct gold-tone attachments, adds an extra touch of prominent hardware to this sleek accessory. Additionally, unlike the original Triomphe design, it appears that the shoulder strap lacks adjustability. Spotted on the runway in white and black patent leather, as well as a deep brown patent crocodile version.

Nino

Taking cues from the all-new Garance, a petite box bag named the Nino emerges. Adorned with a delicate curved top handle, this refined teen-sized black patent bag exudes a ladylike charm. Its structured silhouette and flap front design, finished with gold-tone hardware details embodies vintage vibes.

Terence

Introducing the new Terence bag, again boasting the iconic Triomphe emblem but distinguished by its subtly curved silhouette reminiscent of the Besace. The Terence features a boxy form while adopting a pronounced east-west design, echoing a trend observed in Fall-Winter 2024 collections from Hermès and Louis Vuitton. Similar to the Besace, the bag features a rounded bottom, flap design, and chain, albeit a fresher iteration. The Terence showcases a glossy black patent leather finish with a shorter, oversized, and chunky gold-tone shoulder chain – making it an evening-ready alternative to the Besace.

An additional iteration of the Terence caught attention as well. This variation, presented in a smaller size on the runway, was hand-held. Notably, it features all-black hardware, a departure from the usual gold and silver tone palette at Celine. This iteration opts for a shorter but even more oversized chain, offering a playful twist on proportions.

Other bags. . .

Unveiling another latest addition to Celine’s lineup for Winter 2024 – a fusion of the timeless Celine Triomphe design with  chic shoulder bag elements. This fresh style presents a chic alternative to the existing shoulder bag collection at Celine. With its slightly curved design features and leather strap, this new style breathes a fresh perspective into Celine’s existing collection.

Crafted with a boxy yet elegant form, the bag exudes a refined structural aesthetic, boasting a distinctive flap adorned with the iconic Triomphe emblem. However, what sets this piece apart is its shoulder strap design. Unlike conventional fastenings, the strap seamlessly extends from the sides of the bag, creating a sleek silhouette. Seen in white patent leather on the runway presentation, the bag is finished with gold-tone hardware.
