Check Out the Bags Set to Star in the New Gossip Girl Reboot

Gossip Girl, the popular show about ridiculously good looking teenagers living in Manhattan’s Upper East Side, is back. Even if it never really left us. The brand new reboot premiers this month.

During its original run from 2007 and 2012, the series introduced us to the glamorous world of New York’s elite. Junior style. This, of course, included some seriously covetable fashion, from Hermès bags to just about every ostentatious Chanel accessory imaginable. So naturally the fashion crowd has been eagerly anticipating the latest stylish looks in the reboot.

As you may recall, the original cast carried some truly magnificent bags on the show. And it looks like the hotly anticipated reboot is set to continue with this level of handbag arm candy.

The show’s original costume designer, Eric Daman, returned to produce vogue magic for the revival. Daman spoke to British Vogue about the importance of fashion in the new Gossip Girl. “It was very clear from the beginning that we wanted to editorialise television and give it this high-fashion, international flair.”

Although fashion was, of course, a big aspect of the original series, we expect it to play an even more prominent role in the new Gossip Girl. Television shows increasingly desire to capitalize on the power of fashion on screen and the astounding effect it has on sales. Just take Emily in Paris, for example. Emily featured many designs that sold out soon after the show premiered on Netflix last year.

On the one hand, today’s handbag scene differs from that of the late ‘00s and early 2010s when the show originally aired. However, there are also remarkable similarities. For example, back then, ‘It’ bags and logo-mania were all the rage. And who would have predicted this but both are totally on trend in 2021!

Enough speculation. The question we all want answered is – which bags will feature in the new Gossip Girl reboot? Check out the preview of bags set to star in Gossip Girl 2.0.

Fendi Baguette

This one comes as no surprise. The Fendi Baguette is the OG early ‘00s ‘It’ bag that was the apple of every New York fashionista’s eye. It rose to worldwide fashion fame under the arm of none other than Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City. And the style has since enjoyed a revival much like many other Y2K handbag successes.

On the reboot we see the baguette in bright red. In fact, it is a vintage Baguette … which is even more chic. Let’s just say that if the Gossip Girl revival is even half as successful as that of the Fendi Baguette bag, the cast and crew should be very proud.

Elegant and contemporary, Bulgari’s collection of Serpenti bags has been popular on the New York fashion scene for some time. And now, thanks to the Gossip Girl cast toting the structured top handle design around NYC hotspots, it’s officially hot. We imagine that the accordion style bag is perfect for the characters to carry their essentials from one A-list location to another.

Despite all of the glamorous parties and salacious scandals that Gossip Girl involves not being inline with most people’s high school experience, this is a show centered around teenagers at school. And all school kids, even those who attend fancy New York prep schools, need something to carry their books in. The Louis Vuitton Onthego Tote is plenty spacious and heavily features the logomania trend that the original Gossip Girl cast donned. The roomy style is spotted in black and white leather.

Speaking of glamorous parties, if the original show is anything to go by, we can expect swanky soirées galore. And what do such events need? Sparkling bags! Jimmy Choo’s sparkling Candy bag looks dazzling in these preview pictures.

Jacquemus Le Chiquito

Daman’s choice to mix newer ‘It’ bags with hit styles from the early ‘00s is a wise one. The Jacquemus Le Chiquito landed itself on the must-have handbag list when it was released in 2017. The Le Chiquito is still a hot design today.

Those watching the Gossip Girl reboot will likely remember covetable Y2K bags. And if they weren’t old enough to remember them the first time around, the revivals and re-releases of these styles are certainly fresh in everyone’s minds. But the Gossip Girl audience of today are also familiar with the slew of bags which have been released since the original series ended. The presence of this Jacquemus staple affirms that it won’t just all be revival designs. Rather, as in real life, chic is a fusion of popular retro styles and contemporary trends.

Louis Vuitton New Wave Bum Bag

Louis Vuitton’s New Wave Bum Bag is every bit the bag for the ultimate New York cool girl. One cast member is spotted wearing this trendy style around her waist whilst also donning her school uniform. The Louis Vuitton New Wave Collection features padded leather and LV’s prominent logo. This design is the ever-popular bum bag and logomania trends rolled into one.

Dior Saddle Bag

Another early ‘00s classic. Can a show with an emphasis on fashion and set in New York even get picked up by a network if it doesn’t feature a Dior Saddle bag? Probably not. The Gossip Girl reboot style includes a gray Oblique canvas version of the famous Dior Saddle (we approve).

Louis Vuitton Papillon

This style is also retro but goes way further back than merely the early ‘00s. The Louis Vuitton Papillon was released in 1966 and has remained popular ever since. Today, it’s one of the house’s most well-known vintage bags. Its cylindrical shape makes the style an instant standout piece so it’s sure to be noticeable on-screen alongside the cohort of designer gems.
