Kim Kardashian Denied Chanel Bag and Cries

When it comes to fashion and the Kardashians, the world’s their oyster it seems. After all, you’ve surely had a peek or two at Kim or Kris’ enviable (and enormous might we add) closets. Filled from ceiling to floor with the most coveted handbags from Hermès to Chanel, who wouldn’t want to be a Kardash? At least when it comes to scoring the bag of our dreams.

Recently, Kim made an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden. When asked to share one of her early memories of making it big she recounted this tale. A time when Miss Kim Kardashian herself was eagerly looking forward to getting a gifted Chanel bag… but did not. To make matters worse? She was passed over and the bag was given to her mother, Kris, instead. Here’s how it all went down. Spoiler alert- there are tears.

When reality show star Kim K was pregnant with her firstborn North, she and her mom, Kris Jenner, made a trip to Paris for a photoshoot with the legendary Karl Lagerfeld. At the time, Lagerfeld was at the helm of the House of Chanel, and it was an urban legend of sorts that those who work with Karl were gifted a Chanel handbag.

If a trip to Paris, and getting to work with Karl Lagerfeld, were not enough to get excited about, topping it all off with being gifted a Chanel handbag certainly does the trick. It was this part of her trip that Kim was most excited for as she planned on giving the designer treasure to her first child- North.

As luck would have it though, things took a bit of a turn. While Kim dreamt of her daughter’s future Chanel bag, Kris Jenner and the famed designer became fast-friends over the course of the shoot. Jenner, decked out in head to toe vintage Chanel, certainly made an impression on Karl.

Upon finishing the shoot, the moment had arrived. The moment Kim had been dreaming of.

“Karl thanks me for a great shoot and then from behind his back pulls out a lego clutch bag, a really popular bag he did and it was a crystal one. It was a one of a kind runway piece that didn’t even go into production,” Kim explained.
“Then he goes over me and hands it to my mom. I went to the bathroom and started hysterically crying and I’m pregnant and hormonal, flew all the way to Paris for this… I called my cousin and said, ‘This bi***!’”

Ouch. We’ll admit- that must’ve hurt. Crushed handbag dreams can be the worst, but crushed Chanel dreams? Give us a moment to compose ourselves. Not all was lost though, as the matriarch of the Kardashian-Jenner clan made some concessions as it pertained to the coveted Chanel clutch. She reassured her disappointed daughter that she will include it in her will that North would inherit the Lego clutch. A pleasant compromise, no?

Needless, to say this is definitely a Kardashian tale for the books.
