Why the WOC Will Never Go Out of Style

Tiny, but mighty. The wallet on a chain (or WOC as it is affectionately called) is a go to for all fashionistas, whether splurging on a first designer handbag or collecting in every color. The functionality of this bag makes it a continuous staple piece for many brands including Prada, Gucci, Saint Laurent, Louis Vuitton and of course the Wallet on chain OG, Chanel. Even Hermès now is a player in the WOC market.

The Chanel wallet on a chain has been around for over two decades, with current prices ranging from $2,500 for the classic version to $5,000+ for more novel styles. Many other design houses have released their own take on the powerful little purse. Each season we see a larger selection and variety from all designers as the demand for the WOC continues to grow.

A classic Chanel wallet on a chain has diamond quilted leather and a small CC logo mimicking that of the classic flap bag. For many, the starting price point of the mini bag makes the dream of owning a Chanel handbag a reality.

The WOC knows no age or occasion. The only bag that can literally be worn with pajamas or a ballgown, its functionality makes it a favorite. It is a go to for traveling, sporting events, grocery runs, dinner dates, movie nights, weddings and formal occasions.

Although the WOC requires a serious edit on carried essentials, it somehow still manages to be one of the most useful bags. It holds just enough. That petite size enables an easy transition from day to evening.

Most WOC styles have between 6 to 10 card slots with at least two compartments, sometimes including a zipper pouch or external back pocket. The long chain is traditionally worn as a cross body, but can be doubled to create a shoulder bag, removed or tucked in to be used as a clutch.

When positioned properly a standard size wallet on a chain can hold the following; cell phone, key fob, lipstick, small compact, tissues, cards and money.

A wallet on chain is also a good option as an introductory color bag. Many times we stick to black or beige as they are more neutral “safe” colors. A small bag is a good way to add a pop of color into your handbag wardrobe and get you out of your comfort zone.

Chanel WOCs may be the higher end OG of the market but you can find one at nearly any price point. We’ve done the research for you to check out some of the hottest WOCs on the market and included pricing and measurements to help you find what suits you best!
