Dear PurseBop, It’s Fall… What Should I Buy?

Dear PurseBop,

It’s officially fall (as of September 23rd), and for some reason nothing has caught my eye this year. I love doing a bit of autumn shopping, but there’s nothing I want to buy! I should note that I already own a number of the “classics”: the Chanel Classic Flap, a neutral Birkin (though still no Kelly!), etc. Still, I’m looking for something new and fresh, something that really fits with the season.

What am I missing? What’s trendy for fall, but also—what will stick around when the current trends fade? I’d love to add some ideas to my wishlist.

Love,
Searching for the Perfect Fall Bag

Dear Searching,

Don’t worry. The perfect fall bag is out there for you. First, we just want to sympathize with you; we totally know the feeling of excitement that a new season brings. And while we love summer, there’s something about a fall wardrobe that makes our hearts sing. It’s only natural that the first thing you want to do is splurge on a new beauty for your collection.

Before going into some specific bags and trends, we’d like to invite you to take a look at our recent article on 10 New Bags That Scream Fall. At the very least, it might give you some ideas!

Aside from the fall “staples”—deep reds and browns, suede—there are a few other trends that are perfect for the new season. Case in point? The tweeds that Chanel recently released in boutiques. While Chanel is always all about tweeds, the new collections have some tweed bags that are distinctly fall.

Take, for example, these beautiful Chanel bags done up in tweed. They’re updated takes on Chanel classics that are sure to stun at any time of year.

Additionally, what could be more perfect for fall than an H bag in one of the brand’s newest colors? Hermès has released some beautiful new hues for both the Birkin/Kelly/Constance trifecta and the more attainable bags. Whether you’re opting for a B25 or a Picotin, these colors may be the way to go…

Speaking of Hermès… remember the Little Lindy that made such a splash earlier this year? The mini Lindy, which was released as part of the Fall/Winter 2019 Hermès collection, sparked a more-than-minor frenzy in the handbag sphere.

While the Lindy is a beloved Hermès bag (read: Hermès 101: Hermès Lindy Bag), it doesn’t have the clout of the more famous H bags. Even so, when the mini Lindy was first seen, H fans went wild. Since it’s the first fall with this adorable (and still practical!) bag around, it may be the perfect time to add a little Lindy to your collection.

And let’s not forget the Zumi collection, which Gucci recently released in boutiques and online. The Zumi bag, named after Zumi Rosow, holds a classic appeal, with sleek lines and prominent hardware.

We think it might be perfect for you since it comes in a number of traditional fall hues and in various shapes and sizes—there’s a Zumi shoulder bag, clutch, bucket bag, top-handle bag…you get the gist. It seems like this is a new bag whose appeal is going to stick around for some time.

Finally, we think it may be time to reassess the Hermès Halzan. We don’t give the Halzan enough love, but it’s truly a beautiful (and beautifully unique) H bag. While we were working on our Halzan Guide recently, it really hit us: the Halzan is severely underrated.

We’re not sure what it is, but the Halzan—especially in a neutral hue—screams fall to us. It may just be because the Halzan’s been on our mind… but we do think there’s something autumnal about it.

Obviously we can’t know your tastes exactly, but we hope there was something for you in this letter that helps you make your big autumnal handbag decision. We can’t wait to hear what it will be!

Don’t forget—you could always add another Rodeo Charm to your collection when you’re looking for something to spice up your current selection! @styledbyme_j
