PurseBop attends the Hermès Spring 2024 Ready-to-wear Runway show
Where do I begin… As we walk through the big green gates I realize I’m in the same space —La Garde Rèpublicaine, the venue of the Fall 2023 show… but it feels fresh and inviting. Although familiar, the sensations around me are different… I’m in meadows of tall dried grass with soft hues of beiges and browns. There are thigh-high fresh green grasses lined and interspersed with fresh wild flowers … It’s as though I’m behind stables in a faraway land. Above, the sky is muted, but bright… something out of a fairytale.
Again I look around admiring the beautiful guests. Attire ranges from casual to elegant chic, footwear from Hermès Chypres to stilettos, everyone eager to see what will be next from Hermès. The venue is full with guests and packed with accompanying Hermès special bags like ombre’s, Himalayan’s, and exotic crocodiles. I see many Constances in all sizes, mini Kelly’s in unique combinations, and the occasional bucket bag. But what I noticed most were the limited edition creations: from special dolls, exotic and wheeled bolides, to feathered Elans. This was a place to showcase your lucky offerings.
Overall, the vibe is relaxed, soft, and pleasant, yet brimming with anticipation. Sounds of nature surround us … the chirping of birds, a soft and gentle breeze, and punctuated with notes of sublime flutes playing in the distance… I pause in an effort to soak it all in.
Hermès Spring/Summer 2024
The Hermès Spring/Summer 2024 collection is a master class in stealth wealth with a hint of the exotic. The color palette continues the tradition of previous seasons, featuring timeless classics such as black, and deep brown, and an abundance of neutrals like étoupe and mushroom. So if you’re looking for more major color blasts like Rose Pop, this may not be the grouping for you. However, even for those who venture to bolder hues, there are occasional dashes of striking red and deep burgundy.
Set at La Garde Républicaine among a Hermès-created meadow of fresh wildflowers and dried brush, the mood is light and airy. Hermès means for you to feel the breeze and ease of friendship.
It’s certainly the season for summer leather though. Registering as graceful with movement, the fabric is solid and yet yielding, creating a second skin. Combined with cotton, silk, and knits, the laser-cut leather detailing takes center stage. Hermès relays in its program:
“You’ll find joy in dialogues between fabrics and shades, between curves and colors. In daring, unexpected pairings that challenge codes and appearances.”
The collection effortlessly combines classic with modern techniques, with an androgynous flair.
The Hermès Bag Review
It’s an easy transition to the bags – mostly reruns of classics and prior season debuts. While not a heavy offering this season, there are plenty of styles that excite. The effortless moon-shaped Arçon repeats in various sizes, as does a bag resembling Hermes’ classic (but not quota) Plume.
As if not to ignore the hallmark styles, the show included one signature Birkin, and at least one Kelly Elan. Also shown was an open-top tote – like a classic summer raffia bag but in leather.
Constance Elan
It is confirmed that Constance Elan is returning. The sample at the Hermès Objects presentation was in heritage box leather, but we were able to ascertain that it will also be produced and offered in a variety of leathers. The Constance Elan strap feels longer than the C18, making it ideal for comfortable crossbody wear, for the majority of body types.
With the release of Constance 1-24, we can see Hermès is placing an emphasis on the resurgence of the Constance style. Also interesting to note, is that the C18 was given a facelift with the inclusion of the special little mirror.
Birkin Disco Faubourg 20
It’s no secret that the Birkin 20 has captured the attention of every Hermès aficionado. To date, it was produced as the original Faubourg bag. However, earlier this year, we reported the Birkin 20 was set to be released in exotic skins.

Today, we see it being presented in sublime heritage box leather with the whimsical detail of a disco ball replacing the clochette. Of course, this new version as coveted as it will be, will be exclusive and limited edition.
Shoulder Birkin
Originally designed by Jean Paul Gaultier in 2004, the Shoulder Birkin is set to make a comeback this season. The latest offering is crafted in dark indigo denim with black swift leather flap and handles. Elongated in design, the Shoulder Birkin can be worn comfortably by hand or as the name suggests, on the shoulder.
Mini Kelly Marqueterie
Our jaws nearly dropped when we learned of the craftsmanship of this divine treasure. Enter, the Mini Kelly Marqueterie – painstakingly adorned with a decorative horse design, crafted from veneer, and inlaid onto the heritage black box leather. Note the 24 detailing on the saddle, representing the mothership at 24 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré. This exquisite design will also be offered in the Kelly Elan.
Fonsebelle Chaine Re-edition
Another re-edition from Hermès, the Fonsebelle Chaine. The previous Fonsebelle Chaine model featured a leather shoulder strap, however, this time round the bag has been modernized with a chunky equestrian-inspired chain strap. Presented in box leather at the Objects presentation, we were told that it would also be available in other Hermès leathers. We will update you as we learn more.
Arçon
The Arçon bag graces our presence once again. First introduced in Spring/Summer 2023, this laid-back half-moon hobo exudes timeless chic. Simplistic in design, this style features a key fob detail, an H buckle, and a wide strap.
The original size was presented in Barenia leather and the Petite in Clemence. Despite the difference in size, both bags felt surprisingly comfortable. One key feature that will guarantee the success of this bag is how strategically the Arçon lays against the body. Having tried both sizes, this will clearly be a bestseller for men and women, for those seeking comfort and functionality.
Plume
Dating back to the 1960s, one of Hermès’ oldest designs, the Plume, is making a comeback this season. This iconic piece is reintroduced in a mini variation and a classic tote, complete with feet reminiscent of the Birkin. As in the past, it offers classic style and timeless elegance, with an everyday appeal. Shrunken to mini size it is sure to win hearts.
Presented at the Hermès Resee in chèvre and swift leathers, the Plume is available in vibrant shades of red, deep burgundy, and black.
Panier d’été
Debuting on the runway, the Panier d’été epitomizes elegance for the sun-drenched seasons. This hand-held open-top basket bag marries the rustic allure of wicker with classic leather accents featured on the top half and handles. The color offerings of black and rich burgundy come as no surprise within this neutral collection. For those seeking a more paired-back option for summer, there’s the pochette too.
Pochette d’été
For those seeking refined elegance in a more compact form, Hermès presents the Pochette d’éte. This creation retains the same essence of summer as the Panier d’été. Once again, the upper half and handle are crafted in heritage leather. The pochette is complete with a zippered fastening, and wristlet for easy hand carry.
Kelly Elan
Amidst the Hermès classics and seasonal debuts, the coveted Kelly Elan re-emerges. This time around the chic shoulder bag appears in a burgundy heritage leather. Indeed, Hermès retains the emphasis on heritage leathers also displayed in its Fall/Winter 2023 collection.

Leather Tote
Not all Hermès totes need be Birkins. And in this collection, the Maison introduces a fresh addition from Hermès – an elegant minimalist open-top leather tote. This spacious hand-held tote was spotted on the runway in black smooth leather. While you may not find yourself carrying dried flowers or wheat like the runway models, this tote serves as a fabulous option for chic springtime-wear.
Birkin
Although the iconic Birkin didn’t take center stage in this season’s collection, it made a subtle but captivating appearance. Birkin’s in larger sizes – 35, and 40 are prominent in this collection, in deep brown shades with a burgundy undertone. We also viewed the exquisite Birkin 40 at the presentation. Crafted from heritage box leather, the chosen fabrication added to its timelessness and allure. Hermès is without a doubt pushing heritage leathers this season.
