It may be hard to believe that 2020 is (finally) coming to an end. What better way to celebrate… or at least welcome 2021… than to discuss the Top 10 Investment bags of 2020!

But first, let’s define ‘investment’ in the context of handbags.Think less financial returns and more happiness quotient –  The way your heart skips a beat when you unbox your latest possession. The joy that a handbag brings when accessorized just right with your outfit. And last, but not least, the sense of pride you feel when you reflect on how long your favorite handbag has served you, and the memories that accompany it.

It is this happiness and joy that we think is the best kind of ‘return on investment’. Robust pricing in the secondary market for coveted Birkins and Kellys is just the cherry on the cake.

Our list this year includes predictable favorites, as well as a few surprise new entrants.

As always, we give you the list in no particular order…We love all these bags (almost) equally!

Chanel 19

Released as recently as Fall/Winter 2019, this relatively new style from the House of Chanel rapidly rose to achieve cult status. With its iconic diamond cushy quilting and chunky hardware, this flap bag is young, fun and very trendy! Adding to the hype is the fact that it is priced considerably lower than other Chanel classics. As a result, demand for the Chanel 19 far outstrips supply. Sign us up please!

Hermès Kelly Sellier 25

Originally called the Sac à Dépêches, the Hermès Kelly was renamed in 1977 in honor of Princess Grace Kelly. The Princess infamously used the bag to shield her baby bump from the ever-inquisitive paparazzi. Since then, the bag has become one of the most desired and hard-to-get handbags in the world.

Hermès produces the Kelly in two styles – Sellier and Retourne. The Sellier 25 made the cut for our list as we like that it is more formal and structured with sleek modern edges. In a size 25, the bag fits in with the current small bag trend . Yet, there’s no risk of it going out of style should larger sizes come back in vogue. Not to mention, the Kelly Sellier 25 has been the hottest Hermès size amoungst collectors this year.

Fendi Peekaboo

The Fendi Peekaboo gets its name from the fact that if you leave the bag unclasped – you get a peek of the interior. This Fendi Classic is available in a formal ‘iconic’ style and a more relaxed ‘x-lite’ style. The bag has been spotted on celebrities Rihanna and Meghan Markle. Do we really need to make more of a case for a bag that’s good enough for musical and British royalty?

Louis Vuitton Multi Pochette

This bag is effortlessly cool, very chic and super versatile. We love the fact that the multi-bag is essentially three separate pieces – which can be used together or separately. Available in the iconic Louis Vuitton monogram canvas, we’re also big fans of the sporty crossbody strap! Hard to imagine a bag more ideal for our current COVID-19 world.

Birkin 30

The Holy Grail of bags needs no introduction. A Birkin 30 fits almost everything you could possibly need while out on a busy day, at work, or a night out, and can be carried around easily without it getting too heavy. A fairly common complaint with the larger – and actually original – Birkin 35 is the weight that accompanies the bag when full. The 30cm model is also considered to be perfect for nearly all body types and heights. A true collector’s item.

Louis Vuitton Neverfull

The Louis Vuitton Neverfull, as the name suggests, is a spacious bag perfect for everyday wear. Scoring high on durability and utility, it’s unlikely to ever go out of style. Louis Vuitton releases versions of the bag in different fabrications and hues season after season. From Canvas to Epi-Leather, in several different patterns, you can actually own multiple of them without it feeling redundant!

Chanel Classic Flap

The Chanel Classic Flap was redesigned (into the version we know it) by Karl Lagerfeld upon his arrival at the maison in 1983. 37 years later, this bag still remains relevant and a part of our list! Available in a dizzying selection of styles and fabrics – you can never go wrong with a Classic Flap. Chanel Classic Flap prices have seen prices sky rocket this year resulting in a commensurate increase in value in the secondary market.

Lady Dior

With our current obsession with royalty and Princess Diana, The Lady Dior bag couldn’t be far behind. The bag is synonymous with Lady Diana who was spotted with it on several occasions, resulting in Dior naming the bag after her! The most iconic bag from the house of Dior, this coveted bag comes in various sizes, material and colors. From muted subtle canvas to fiery red patent leather variants, there is a Lady Dior out there for everyone.

YSL Wallet on Chain

Wallet on Chain bags are super convenient when all you want to carry is your phone, a few cards and a lipstick. And of course your mask! The wallet on chain by Yves Saint Laurent is one of the most iconic wallet-on-chain bags out there. Available in two sizes, the bag has a detachable strap which allows you to carry it either crossbody or as a clutch.

Louis Vuitton Twist Bag

Released five years ago, this Louis Vuitton bag features a monogrammed logo lock that is cute and unique. To open the bag, you have to slightly twist the letter L to fit into the letter V. Available in a wide range of colors, we love how this bag stylishly transforms any outfit.

Hermès Kelly Classique To Go Wallet

We were so happy when Hermes joined the WOC bandwagon! Another beautiful option for those inclined towards smaller bags, this bag is basically the Kelly wallet with a leather strap. If you have a minimalist approach when you leave the house – this bag is for you. All that fits inside is cards, cash and your phone!
